“Guillermo’s passion for coffee has always driven him. He takes pride in what he has learned about specialty coffee production and enjoys applying this knowledge to his work. However, being a coffee farmer comes with significant challenges, including the high cost of agricultural supplies and the difficulty of finding a direct buyer willing to pay a fair price for his coffee. Despite these obstacles, Guillermo considers one of his greatest achievements to be successfully selling his coffee as specialty micro lots.

Looking ahead, Guillermo’s goals include achieving sustainability in his production practices and providing his 11-year-old daughter with a quality education through the fruits of his labour. He is also committed to cultivating varieties of coffee that will allow him to compete in specialty coffee events like the Cup of Excellence. Guillermo has a message for those who enjoy his coffee in Canada and other countries:

‘I am a small-scale coffee producer with an agro-ecological focus. On my farm, I use environmentally friendly practices such as shade-grown coffee, soil conservation techniques, live barriers, balanced nutrition based on soil analysis, and manual weed control. I do not use any chemicals for pest management. I am trained in specialty coffee preparation, and the product I offer is of the highest quality.’ “ - Semilla
